NFT Spotlight #5

Reva

Reva's art is a manifestation of her understanding and interest in the visual presentation of mathematical functions and autonomous system simulation.

NFT will be the most fundamental technique in the metaverse, representing all unique digital assets containing human creativity.

How did you first get involved with art?

I loved drawing when I was a child but I didn't learn art at my university. Instead, I majored in computer science. After about six years of being an algorithm engineer in industries of film, VR and AR, I found myself more interested in art. Since 2018, I have been teaching myself digital art. And lucky enough for me, I discovered the field of algorithmic/generative art, which combines my interests and technical skills. I really enjoy the process of coding to make art.

What are your inspirations?

My inspirations come mainly from math. Since most of my previous experiences were related to science, technology, and mathematics, I was interested in the visual presentation of mathematical functions and autonomous system simulation. My recent interest is in fractal art. It has a lot of details and is rich in variety. I find it really fascinating.

How did you discover NFTs?

Long before I knew about NFTs, I read through the white paper of Bitcoin.  Thanks to my technology background, I quickly understood that blockchain is an important technology across the era but it was not until early 2020 when I first heard about crypto art from an article. It was when the epidemic started to get serious, and many of my art projects had to be postponed. So I felt excited about the development and soon devoted myself to the research of crypto art and participated in the communities of many NFT platforms.

Can you tell us about your journey as a NFT artist in China?

I started to learn crypto art in the communities of crypto native platforms in March 2020. At that time, there were few people in China who paid attention to this field, and there was not much information about it. So I was getting information directly from Twitter or Discord.

In July 2020, I participated in the themed NFT competition organized by Makersplace and DappReview. I was so lucky to win the competition and have since been certified as a Makersplace crypto artist.

What do you think the future of NFTs will look like?

NFT will be the most fundamental technique in the metaverse, representing all unique digital assets containing human creativity.  At that time we probably won't emphasize the name NFT but it will be the most common aspect in people's digital lives in the future.

What advice would you give to aspiring artists?

Stick to your creation and be completely yourself. Crypto art is the best place to show your unique art style. Don't give up, even if no one is praising you or there are no sales. Sometimes your artwork can't find its collector. It is not a problem of the artwork itself, it's just that no one has found it yet. Crypto art was created for everyone to express their art freely, so there is no need to get lost again. Make whatever you think it's art.
