What Is Linea and Why an Airdrop Will Occur

December 2024 Update: The Linea team has officially announced plans to launch the LINEA token by Q1 2025.

Formerly known as Consensys zkEVM, Linea is an Ethereum zk-rollup Layer 2 (L2) developed by the Web3 giant Consensys (developers of MetaMask). The Linea airdrop presents a unique opportunity as it is potentially the first airdrop directly tied to the multi-billion valued company.

Linea’s mainnet launched on 11 July 2023 and has grown steadily since then. According to DefiLlama, Linea is currently the sixth largest Ethereum L2 by Total Value Locked (TVL).

In their official documentation, the Linea team indicates that, on July 30, 2024, they are still in phase 1 of their development roadmap.

In the latter half of Phase 3, Decentralize Governance will take place, typically accompanied by an airdrop. Although this event is still two phases away, the team has already launched various events and campaigns to help users earn points, paving the way for token distribution in the near future.

How Does the Linea Airdrop Work?

To participate in the potential airdrop, the Linea team introduces their points programme known as the Linea Voyage. By participating in the programme, users will receive Linea XP Points (LXP) based on their contributions. LXP are non-transferable, soul bound tokens to recognise each user’s contribution to the network. In short, farm these LXP points for a potential hefty airdrop!

Currently, the Linea Voyage programme is divided into two main programmes, Linea Voyage LXP (LXP) and The Surge (LXP-L). LXP is earned through participation and exploration of Dapps throughout the Linea ecosystem whereas LXP-L is earned through provision of Liquidity throughout the Linea ecosystem. The Linea team decided on this separate points system instead of a combined system to ensure that both types of contributions – activity-based or liquidity-based – are rewarded equally without diluting each other.

Linea’s Surge programme lasts for 6 months (termed as Volts by the Linea Team) or whenever Linea’s Total Value Locked (TVL) hits $3B, whichever comes first. As of August 1 2024, The Surge is in its 3rd Volt.

How to Earn LXP

Step 0.5: Bridging into Linea

Well of course, the first step would be to bring funds into the Linea ecosystem. Here are some of the bridges you can use to get you there!

Linea’s Official Bridge

Use the official bridge to curry favor and get a potential multiplier from the Linea team! (It’s more expensive though)

Head on over to https://bridge.linea.build/ and click the Linea Native Bridge option.

Fill in the amount you want to bridge over and hit START BRIDGING, sign the transaction and you’re set!

Bridge Aggregator Jumper

If you’re looking for a cheaper alternative and to bridge funds in from various different blockchains, this option is for you. [Hint: Using this might also give you an airdrop]

First, head on over to https://jumper.exchange/ and select Linea as your destination chain.

Select your preferred source chain and token to bridge to Linea.

Choose your preferred route (It looks like Stargate V2 is the cheapest here!).

Click Start bridging.

Sign the transactions and you’re set!

Step 1: Proof of Humanity

After you’ve bridged in, before you can participate and receive LXP, you need to complete Linea’s anti-sybil mechanism, Proof of Humanity.

To do this, first head over to https://poh.linea.build/ and connect your wallet

Scroll down and you will find some verification methods, you have to complete 1 method from Group A.

You will also have to complete 2 methods in Group B.

Once you’ve completed these three attestations, your Proof of Humanity should be completed!

Step 2: Join in the Linea Voyage

While there are no active Linea Voyage activations now as of the time of writing (Check Back Next Time), look out for Linea campaigns to get your share of LXP! While there are some activations at the moment, these don’t give you LXP. 

The recently concluded Culture Szn was as simple as minting a NFT once a day for a month for a total maximum of 515 LXP (There was no Minting Fee!).

October 2024 Update

In a series of announcements, the Linea team announced the beginning of Volt 6, the final month and last chance for users to accumulate LXP-L. Volt 6 will end on November 25.

Additionally, the team also announced the final campaign for users to earn LXP, titled “LXP Adventure”, in collaboration with AlphaMind. The campaign consists of three quests, giving users an opportunity to earn a total of 50 LXP.

How to Earn LXP-L

Note: You do not need to pass Linea’s Proof of Humanity for LXP-L.

Step 1: Connect to Linea

You will first need to activate your Linea wallet at https://referrals.linea.build/.

Once you’ve put in a referral code and signed, your address will be active!

Step 2: Hold Assets on Linea

Hold eligible assets in any of the listed and approved protocols on Linea to begin accruing LXP-L. There is no minimum amount required for this (although more is better!).

Step 3: Watch Your Points Grow!

Sit back, relax and watch your LXP-L grow as you climb the points rank ladder. There are no lock-ups here to worry about, feel free to shift your assets around within or even out of Linea. There are no penalties for removing liquidity as points are accrued linearly each time a protocol updates the OpenBlock dashboard. However, there are some multiplier effects here you can take into consideration when choosing your positions.

4-in-1 Linea Airdrop Route Through Mitosis

Deposit your wrapped Ether.fi Ethereum (weETH) in Mitosis, an upcoming ecosystem liquidity L1. Doing this on the Linea chain allows you to accrue LXP-L, Eigenlayer points, Ether-fi points & Mitosis points!
