What are the Most Popular NFTs?

The most popular NFT on CoinGecko is Nakamigos, which has been added to 1,234 users’ watchlists. This suggests that more investors or holders are monitoring Nakamigos’ price closely, despite it being a relatively recent collection.

Yuga Labs’ Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) is the second most popular NFT collection and is on 1,076 user watchlists. CyberKongz and bitmap follow further behind with 867 and 851 watchlist saves respectively.

Among NFTs launched in 2022, Pixelmon has emerged as the most popular collection after the project was revived, and is on 786 user watchlists.

Overall, each of the top 30 most popular NFT collections on CoinGecko have seen 400 or more users add them to their watchlists. 

Out of the 11 NFT collections previously considered ‘blue chips’, 8 made it into the 30 most popular NFTs rankings on CoinGecko. Notably, the 3 NFT collections that did not make it also saw their floor prices drop to relatively the lowest levels in this year’s blue chip NFT price crash.

30% of Most Popular NFTs are from 2023, vs 27% from 2022

NFTs minted in 2021 continue to dominate in popularity, accounting for 12 of the 30 most popular NFTs on CoinGecko. These 2021 NFTs have managed to remain relevant over time, showing strong resilience in both their brand and community.

However, even NFT collections launched during the bear market have a healthy representation in the most popular NFT rankings.

2023 NFTs account for 9 of the 30 most popular NFTs, pulling just ahead of 2022 NFTs which account for 8 of the top 30. This perhaps points to 2022 having been a challenging year for NFT collections, and offers a slightly more positive outlook for 2023. With a few months left this year, it remains to be seen whether more 2023 NFT collections will gain popularity.

Most Popular NFTs Still Mostly on Ethereum

Even as NFTs diversify across chains, a majority of the most popular collections are still Ethereum NFTs, which make up 24 of the top 30 rankings. In comparison, only 4 Solana NFTs and 2 Bitcoin Ordinals NFTs rank in the 30 most popular collections on CoinGecko.

Besides bitmap, the other most popular Ordinals NFT is Bitcoin Frogs, which has been added to 685 watchlists.

Meanwhile, the most popular Solana NFTs were launched either this year or in 2021, with none of the 2022 Solana NFTs making the rankings. Only GGSG: Galactic Geckos is in the top 10 alongside the Ordinals NFTs, with 722 watchlist saves.
