The ARCH token serves four core functions within the protocol:

- Governance: The ARCH token facilitates governance of the protocol. Token holders may submit governance proposals and participate in voting on-chain. - Transaction Fees: As a spam prevention mechanism, ARCH are used to pay transaction fees on the Archway network. The fees are proportional to the amount of computation required by the transaction, similar to Ethereum’s concept of “gas”.
- Developer Revenue: Application developers earn a share of the protocol's revenue, which is generated from inflation, transaction fees, and smart contract premiums. This revenue is distributed to developers in the form of ARCH tokens.
