CoinGecko will be hosting our very first After Party in conjunction with our 7th anniversary on April 8 @ 10 PM EST. We would like to give a shout-out to Vandal and DAORecords for collaborating with us on this exciting event!
One of our featured DJs is Vandal, hip hop artist, and entrepreneur.
Read on to get to know Vandal better!
1. Can you share a bit about yourself?
Hey! I go by Vandal, most people know me by my alias since it was conceived in 1994. I'm originally from Toronto, before it was called the 6ix and have spent most of the last 15 years in Malaysia as a nomadic Hip Hop artist and entrepreneur.
2. What inspired you to get into the crypto space?
Around 2015 I'd heard about Bitcoin from watching Max Keiser and I went out and bought the only book I could find at the time to try and understand Blockchain a bit better. But it wasn't until early 2017 that I had the opportunity to dive in, get my hands dirty and fall down the rabbithole of ICOs, trading and of course Cryptokitties. I guess you could say that my initial motivation was a curiosity of sorts, seeing how we could adopt decentralised technology to better the world.
3. Can you share with us more about DAOrecords?
DAOrecords is an ecosystem for Audio artists in the Web3 space, with a strong focus on NFTs and onboarding musicians through various activities on social media and the Metaverse. More than just a "label" and not quite a "platform" we are still finding our identity as the technology around us rapidly improves, allowing us to move freely and innovate.
4. Asides from DAOrecords, are there any current projects you’re working on?
I've been working on a documentary with my mother, it's about the NFT space and more specifically Crypto Art. She's providing the visuals for my set for the After Party as well. The film is called I Want My NFT and is currently in production. We hope to have it ready by June 2021 and are just about to begin our fundraising efforts through the release of our Access Pass NFTs! Aside from that, I've been trying to get some music projects finished and have been exploring other integrations into DAOrecords.
5. What are your thoughts on the future of music and crypto?
It's going to be very interesting that's for sure. I'm not quite sure exactly how it's going to shape out, but I know that we're going to create a new and more equitable music industry in the process. Through the use of NFTs, social currency and decentralised governance models we are primed to witness a new digital renaissance very soon!
