In 2025, the team made token discovery a central part of the product experience, allowing its 10M+  users to explore a vast selection of crypto assets directly from the app.

To achieve this, Crypto.com Onchain leverages the CoinGecko API for real-time price and market data of over 11M tokens across 200+ networks.

The Challenge

In the past, discovering various tokens required juggling multiple platforms for research, swapping, and storage. This made DeFi adoption a challenge for many of Crypto.com's users.

That is why the Crypto.com Onchain wallet was designed to solve this, allowing users to discover, manage, and trade tokens seamlessly in one app. This unified experience ultimately benefits the broader Crypto.com ecosystem. 

Why Crypto.com Chose CoinGecko API

Back in 2024, the Crypto.com team began by integrating CoinGecko’s on-chain API (powered by GeckoTerminal), to support its Degen Arcade feature, offering real-time memecoin tracking.

As the need for faster and broader token coverage became clear, the team extended the integration using the full suite of CoinGecko API to help scale token support and discovery operations.

How Crypto.com Onchain Leverages CoinGecko API

In February 2025, Crypto.com Onchain rolled out a major update that introduced multiple ways for users to discover tokens within the app. The update leverages data from CoinGecko API to power a broad selection of crypto assets, from the latest bonded tokens launched on trending launchpads, and other high-interest tokens.

On the homepage, tokens are sorted by filters like Hot, Top, New, and Gainers to help users quickly discover trending or high-performing assets, powered by CoinGecko API.

Here, Crypto.com Onchain utilizes CoinGecko API’s Coins List with Market Data endpoint for ‘Top’ tokens ranking, Trending Search List endpoint for ‘Hot’ tokens, and the Recently Added Coins endpoint for ‘New’ tokens.

Additionally, the ‘Gainers’ and ‘Losers’ tabs are powered by the Top Gainers and Losers endpoint, while themed categories like ‘AI’ tokens and memecoins are sourced from the Coin Categories List endpoint.

Business and User Outcomes

Following the homepage revamp, Crypto.com saw an 86% improvement in user clicks, interacting with a wider range of tokens and spending more time on asset discovery. The token categories also made it easier for users to identify market trends and act on them, leading to increased swap activity and broader token exposure.

CoinGecko’s API played a key role in enabling these updates, delivering accurate token data, pricing, and metadata that power the homepage. It also supports real-time onchain activity through GeckoTerminal, helping Crypto.com Onchain to surface high-velocity trends like memecoins with minimal lag. The integration process was efficient, backed by clear documentation and a stable developer experience, allowing Crypto.com to process updates faster and reduce internal resource strain.
