Digital identities can be a complex matter as many users are concerned about the information and data that companies collect. The concerns range from unwanted personal data collection to this information being sold to third party entities that can then target specific content to them. To combat this growing issue, Humanity Protocol is harnessing the blockchain to create a decentralized solution that allows for personal identity ownership.
Humanity Protocol is a zkEVM Layer 2 blockchain leveraging Polygon CDK and fortified by zero-knowledge cryptographic proofs to ensure network security. It incorporates a combination of non-invasive biometrics and Proof-of-Humanity technology to enable users to verify their identification without disclosing personally identifiable information. The project aims to enhance user verification in the Web3 space by leveraging palm recognition technology which is less invasive than iris scans and more accessible thanks to our countless devices.
Through the protocol’s Proof-of-Humanity technology, third-party applications are able to authenticate users directly on their devices. Some Web3 applications are increasingly adding in requirements for identity verification as part of efforts to increase security, comply with regulations, and create a user base of trustworthy individuals. For example, Decentralized Physical Infrastructure (DePIN) systems might integrate identity verification to comply with regulatory bodies in different jurisdictions.
Humanity Protocol is an initiative launched by Human Institute in collaboration with Animoca Brands and Polygon Labs. Human Institute is an organization dedicated to exploring the power of science and technology including the impact of artificial intelligence. Meanwhile, Animoca Brands is a game software and venture capital company, and Polygon Labs is a developer of Ethereum scaling solutions. The protocol was officially founded by Terence Kwok, a tech entrepreneur who also serves as the CEO, and guided by a council of founding humans. Members of the council include Yat Siu, Co-founder and Executive Chairman of Animoca Brands, and Sandeep Nailwal, Co-founder of Polygon Labs.
On May 15, 2024, Humanity Protocol announced that it had successfully raised $30 million in a Seed Round led by Kingsway Capital. The round also received participation from Animoca Brands, Blockchain.com, Hashed, Shima Capital, and more. After concluding the funding round, Humanity Protocol’s private valuation hit $1 billion. The funds will be used to accelerate hiring and product development.
Interested individuals can now participate in Humanity Protocol’s testnet which will be introduced over three phases in order to progressively build the protocol’s secure identity verification system. The first phase is focusing on creating a robust network of verified individuals where users can sign up and reserve their unique Human ID. Phase 1 went live on September 30, 2024, and successfully attracted nearly 150,000 participants within the first week.
After that, the second phase involves palm pre-enrollment via a mobile app for users to register their biometric palm prints as well as upload and validate personal data. This phase is designed to prepare users for the final phase where they will need to undergo palm vein scanning using specialized devices. At the time of writing, no information has been provided on the devices that this phase will utilize or how users will be able to carry out this full enrollment.
As Humanity Protocol continues to build and develop this decentralized identity verification platform, now is an ideal time to participate in the testnet and collect rewards. However, do note that at the time of writing, the Humanity Protocol team has not made any official announcement regarding a token airdrop. Therefore, following the steps below and participating in Humanity Protocol’s testnet does not guarantee a future token airdrop allocation.
Step 1: Reserve Your Human ID
Head over to https://testnet.humanity.org/ to enroll in the testnet. Depending on the number of users attempting to sign up at the same time, you might be put into a line requiring a short wait. We only had to wait about a minute or two before being able to sign up.

First, you will need to either connect your wallet, sign up via email address, or connect one of your social accounts. In this example, we will be Connecting our Wallet.

We will be using MetaMask to proceed.
The Humanity testnet network will be added to your wallet and you need to Sign the Message to verify your account.

Next, create your Human ID by choosing a name and entering a referral Human ID. If you don’t have any friends with referral codes, you can input the letter “t” which has been set by Humanity Protocol as a widely accepted code.

After that, complete your profile by providing your first name, last name, and email address. You will receive an email with a link to confirm your email address.
Do take note that due to the testnet nature of Humanity Protocol, this step does require patience as the above actions might need to be repeated in order to receive the verification email.

Step 2: Refer Others
Once your Human ID has been created, you will be redirected to the Dashboard.

At the top, you will see your Human ID, wallet address, rewards balance, and ranking in the leaderboard. Our Human ID and wallet address have been blurred out for privacy purposes in the image below.

Under your rewards information, you can find Your referral link to share with friends and other users in order to collect your referral rewards. There is also a Genesis Reward which can be claimed every 20 hours.
The Bridge and Faucet are currently for developers to test their code and will not provide you with any rewards. On top of that, the Palm Not Enrolled is a feature that will be released in Phase 2, therefore no action is required at this time.

Conclusion
Humanity Protocol is a zkEVM protocol built on Polygon CDK that was launched by Humanity Institute in collaboration with Animoca Brands and Polygon Labs. It aims to introduce a new method of user identity verification through digital palm recognition in order to create a decentralized solution that allows for personal identity ownership. Interested individuals can now participate in the Humanity Protocol testnet to register their Human ID and earn rewards by referring others.
Do note that airdrop farming is highly speculative and following the above steps are no guarantee that you will receive a share. Moreover, always verify that your are connecting your wallet to the official protocol to avoid falling victim to airdrop scams. Always do your own research before interacting with any protocols.
