What is BUSD?

CoinGecko currently tracks the Binance USD (BUSD) token across multiple chains. Do note that only the BUSD tokens on the Ethereum chain are issued by Paxos - a regulated entity by the New York State Department of Financial Services (NYDFS) - in partnership with Binance.

BUSD tokens on BNB Chain, Polygon, and Avalanche however are issued by Binance independently and are not products of Paxos, hence do not fall under the oversight of the NYDFS. Strictly, these should be considered Binance-Pegged BUSD, where Binance independently mints these tokens and pegs them to BUSD on a one-to-one basis.

BUSD tokens issued on other chains are wrapped or bridged tokens that employ different mechanisms in maintaining their price peg, which then have their own assurances separate from Binance or Paxos.
